TERRAIN FOR PUBLIC ACTIONS

Citizens’ Forums have become an apparatuses to transform identity politics to public actions on the basis of public good. Citizens Forums have articulated between social issues and political aspects in order to organize grass root people to collective actions. Therefor issues related to education, health, transport, food security and nature including the lives of the non-humans have become a public interest of the people. Citizens Forums have been doing a participatory role to manipulate public good and submit public issues in the democratic institutions. Accordingly Citizens’ Forums have engaged with Local Government Institutions to determine public interest in decision making processes.

The Level of Engagement in Local Government Institutions

# Citizens’ Forums have participated regularly in Public Galleries during the monthly meetings.

Citizens Forums have submitted people’s proposals to monthly meetings held LGIS.

Citizens ‘Forums have engaged to prepare participatory budgets and forced political representatives and officials to implement peoples’ proposals.

Citizens’ Forums have passionate beyond the participatory democracy. Hence they were enthusiastic to organize people for agonistic participation on different public issues.

Especially Citizens’ Forums were doing a leading role to defend peoples’ lands from enforced occupation.

# Panama Land Grabbing was an authentic example of atrocious occupation of lands by Gotabaya Rajapaksa then Secretary of Defense Ministry. He was leading the military outfits to evacuate lands from the people, as a result of that 300 families were displaced and lost their livelihood.

Their agricultural lands were occupied for luxury hotels. Citizens’ Forums have become a public terrain for struggle against this devastation. Citizens Forums have been struggling against the establishment since 2009.

Citizens Forums have sentient about National Issues.

#  Citizens Forums have engaged national level actions to defend democracy, social justice and equality. Citizens Forums were doing a leading role whenever peoples confront with the elites who bulldozed   life’s’ of the people. They have journeyed with people to overthrow whoever becomes totalitarian.

Geographical Areas

Citizens Forums have established since 2009.

Citizens’ Forums Currently operated in Ampara and Monaragala Districts.

Public Actions have extended beyond the Citizens Forums.

Public Actions have extended to different public spheres on a vision of Transformation Narration.

The experience of the actions in citizens’ forums provoked the public actions in different spheres. The basic vision for the extended public actions is to organized people for Transformation Narration. Narration would be a social well being beyond the Neo liberal order.  Accordingly, there are public spheres have operated for collective actions.
